50 years of innovation

The year: 1974. The place: Atlanta, Georgia, USA. What happened 50 years ago changed the face of outdoor cooking for ever.

It was then that our founder Ed Fisher, inspired by Southern barbecue culture and traditional Japanese kamado grills, sold his first egg-shaped outdoor oven from a store previously devoted to arcade machines. In the years to come, thanks to Ed’s embrace of cutting-edge materials and eye-catching design, a local following turned into a global phenomenon. After five decades of restless innovation today’s EGG is a very different beast, but its spirit remains unchanged, rooted in Ed’s belief that cooking over fire brings people together.

With its two Michelin stars and endless accolades, Ynyshir is up there with the very best restaurants in the UK. Located in the far west of Wales, it is, in the words of chef Gareth Ward and his partner Amelia Eriksson, “not in the middle of nowhere, it’s at the end of nowhere”. A visit to Ynyshir is an intimate, immersive experience, with bedrooms and dining space for just 20 people. Gareth’s bold, playful, ever-changing feasts feature aged meat, local shellfish, fermented vegetables and beautifully balance Japanese flavours – and the Big Green Egg is a vital tool in its construction.

30 March - 27 April Sundown Sessions: Grill like a Gaucho

Master the Grill with Gaucho Restaurants, Richmond

It’s the perfect opportunity to see the EGG in action and taste the results. The events will be focused on learning the art of cooking the perfect steak on the EGG. You will learn the differences between the cuts of meat, what to look for when buying steak, and how to cook three different types of steak, maximising flavour and tenderness. Including techniques like the only way to season steak, cooking dirty directly on the coals and which surfaces to use.

Experience flavour on the EGG in the Goodwood estate pub at some exciting upcoming events. Famous for its motorsports and horse riding, the Goodwood has also been farmed for over 300years and is one of the only self-sustaining organic farms in Europe. These organic principles enable its farmers to produce the best-tasting beef, pork and lamb, all of which are served at the pub.
